Rural Councils Victoria has welcomed a combined $1 billion in support from the State and Federal Governments for communities affected by the flooding crisis.
Rural Councils Victoria Chair Cr Mary-Ann Brown said:
“The support from the Victorian and Australian governments is very necessary and most welcome,” RCV Chair Mary-Ann Brown said.
“However, we encourage governments to consult with, and listen to, local experts and the local communities when allocating resources.”
“Housing and shelter will likely need much more resources as we move from meeting short term/crisis accommodation to rebuilding and long-term recovery.
“For example, financial support will be needed for improved flood monitoring, planning and the relocation of severely impacted areas will likely be required.”
“All of this needs long-term planning and implementation into the years ahead.”
“We look forward to working with both the State and Federal Governments to ensure Victoria’s rural communities get the support they need as quickly as possible.”
