RCV has this week submitted its response to the Discussion Paper for the Local Government Bill.
In the submission, RCV highlights the importance of considering the proposed structural changes to local government operations through the lens of Victoria’s 38 rural councils.
Making up half of the state’s local government areas, these organisations are a significant provider of core services for Victorians.
RCV Chair Cr Mary-Ann Brown said it was important for a rural voice to be heard through this process.
“I appreciate that many of these changes make sense in the context of metropolitan Melbourne,” she said.
“In highlighting our perspective on the Proposed Bill, we want to ensure that rural communities are not negatively impacted by any of the suggested measures.”
