Rural Councils Victoria offers our congratulations to the newly elected federal government.
Rural Councils Victoria Chair Cr Mary-Ann Brown said: “We look forward to working closely with Prime Minister Albanese and his team to help them deliver what communities across rural Victoria need.”
“We are looking forward to meeting the new ministers and their staff to continue our advocacy and provide the research and data that backs up the asks that Rural Councils have been making on behalf of rural communities.”
“In the wake of RCV advocacy, we are appreciative of the billions of dollars in election commitments made by all sides of politics that would benefit rural communities.”
But more work needs to be done, and urgently. Cr Brown said “the areas we will talk about with the newly elected government include: aged care, housing, roads, emergency management, digital connectivity, mobile blackspots, tourism and financial support for councils so councils can better support rural communities.
“Rural communities are facing many challenges, but with an influx of new community members from the cities and the support of federal and state governments, we can provide the conditions for rural Victoria to thrive. We’ll be working hard to make sure rural Victoria gets it fair share.”
